2012: An exhibition Restoration: Bishop Cosin, His Library and the Changing Face of Durham opened in the Dunelm Gallery at Palace Green Library on this day. The exhibition marked completion of a £350,000 conservation project at the library and celebrated the work of Bishop John Cosin who was responsible for the construction of several of the city’s best-known buildings. As a close ally of Charles I he was exiled during the English Civil War but after the restoration of the monarchy he was appointed to the influential post of Bishop of Durham by Charles II.
